Today was cloudy and overcast but not cold. Went to the southwest harbor of Mount Desert Island to Seal Harbor, Tremont and Bernard.
More beautiful coast line. Went to two different light houses. There seems to be so many of them, the coast being so rocky and rought. These little villages, have only a gas station/convient store and not very big ones at that. The last town we went thru, Bernard is a great little village and very very rustic. Two restaurants, a ferry boat dock and thats it. Maybe ten houses in all BUT the greatest restaurant of all times IF you like lobster. It is called Thurston's Lobster Pound. It has a double decker dining room, bright yellow awnings and did I mention rustic! Out door bathrooms but they do have running water and flush toliets.
Anyway you go inside and go up to the counter, order your lobster by weight, the little ole lady reaches into this big tub of ice cold water (this is in between you and her) and pulls out the lobster of your choice. She then puts ina mesh type bag with a slip of paper with your name on it, walks it out the back door and puts in a large wood fired tub with boiling water. When the time is up, someone yells out your name and you pick it up, take it back to your table and enjoy your you lobster and it only cost around $20...but it was soooo good. That is 20 bucks for the lobster, no side dishes just lobster but it does fill you up. Art doesn't understand how I can eat something that you pull from the bottom of the sea but I have not had lobster in 15 years and like I said it was soooo good.
While you are dining you watch the lobster boats come in, empty themselves of lobster and head back out to check their traps. Not a great life style but I appreciated it.
Did some shopping in Bar Harbor and then headed back to camp before dark but not before the rain started...wet again but a good nights sleep on my air mattress. Packing up in the morning and taking our time going home.
